As I was upgrading my WordPress blogs to version 3.0.1 last week, one of them failed to upgrade automatically. So I went ahead and downloaded the latest WordPress package to my PC and uploaded it to my web server through FTP so that I could upgrade it manually.
Things went smoothly and my blog was working nicely although there was always this error message in the Dashboard: “An Automated WordPress Update has Failed to Complete”.
When WordPress goes through an automated upgrade, it creates a file named .maintenance in its root folder. Simply delete this file using an FTP Client and you will no longer see this error message in the dashboard. Make sure the manual upgrade completed successfully before doing this though.
