Last week the Canadian web hosting provider iWeb launched the so-called Virtualization Ready Servers. These are actually a new range of classic dedicated servers only configured to work with applications requiring virtualization tools. iWeb decided to introduce these servers primarily as a result of wanting to offer their clients more highly customized products and services.
This newly introduced virtualization platform makes it possible for a single server to be split up into many virtual servers. As such, these platforms lend themselves very well to many uses, such as virtual private server hosting, or reselling on one server, which are two uses that need two different software environments.
The virtualization technologies that iWeb has chosen are Microsoft HyperV, Xen Open Source and Parallels™ Virtuozzo. These are, of course, all considered as industry standards. While customers already had the option of using these before the launch of the new virtualization servers, many had asked for pre-installed solutions to make their lives that much easier.
iWeb’s new servers come in 4 different configurations, namely Startup, Professional, Small Business and Enterprise. Each of these is, as their names already suggest, aimed at a particular subset or type of businesses. The prices of these different configurations start at $189 per month, though each plan is fully customizable to fit each customer’s requirements and budget.
